So yeah I have been exploring a lot of different facets of art lately, I have done realism which I often said I disliked, I am learning to paint with watercolors after years of being terrified by them and have started painting more in general. I have much to learn as an artist so I am pushing myself every step of the way to learn new things, trying to get out of my comfort zone. As such I believe it is about time I break one of my biggest taboos.
I am thinking I am going to do a Fanart month.
When I began arting I was strongly against the idea of creating fanart. I thought it was a waste of creative energy. But over the years as I have matured as an artist I have come to realize that you can learn a lot from studying and learning from famous works even the ones that are often labeled as targeting the "lowest common denominator". If people like them there is a reason for it and if I want to be a great artist I have to put aside those core beliefs I had and get to work. I plan to work a bit on two fields, art styles and characters this may take some time so it may be more than just one month of work and since I am a big fan of animation in general so I think Ill start there. I am gonna go with my favorite shows and maybe shows that I dont watch but a lot of people are watching today.
The list I have in mind is:
Studio Ghibli works
Avatar series
Young Justice
The DC Animated Universe
My Little Pony
FLCL
Ghost in the Shell
Disney
Shiro Masamune
Naito Yasuhiro
Ill probably either pick a style and do something of my own on it. Or pick a character from these series and draw it my own way.
If you have any requests or suggestions for me to draw feel free to comment.
